2/ Quarterly 1 & 4 Azure powdered with fleur de lys or 2 & 3 Gules three lions passant guardant or the whole within a bordure or Impaling Azure a bend argent cotised or between six lions rampant of the third – Plantagenet impaling de Bohun

This next Plantagenet impalement is “out of sequence”, as it were, with the previous one and the next, which can cause a degree of confusion. It denotes the marriage of the great x2 grandson of King Henry III, Richard Fitzalan, 6th Earl of Arundel & Surrey, who was beheaded in 1393, to Lady Elizabeth de Bohun. This is where the early Plantagenet lines became reunited, for she was the granddaughter of the Humphrey de Bohun who had married Elizabeth, daughter of King Edward I. The Fitzalan line had descended through the female marriage of Lady Eleanor Plantagenet to Richard Fitzalan, Earl of Arundel. This shield begins the lineage to Lady Brigett Poulett (q.v. shield 18).
